Q: I have polycystic kidneys and although I'm not in renal failure - my kidneys function well - I could progress to that stage. What is the success rate in keeping someone from going into renal failure? Can the cysts be healed and the kidneys reduced to normal size again using Tibetan medicine?

Fran, Enumclaw, WA USA

A: It is very difficult for me to give an exact percentage in terms of our success rate in Tibetan medicine, since we don't have a conclusive document or research paper to prove the number of successfully treated cases. In general, Tibetan medicine has been very effective in treating many problems related to the kidneys, such as renal problems, kidney stones, loss of heat in the kidneys, and weak kidney function. I also am a little hesitant to give an answer about whether your kidney cysts are curable or not since it depends on a few different factors.

My best suggestion would be for you to consult with a traditional Tibetan doctor. The doctor will look into your entire body's constitution at this point in time, do a diagnosis based reading of your pulse and be able to see the total picture of your problem. The doctor will also examine your first morning urine to check whether it is a hot or a cold related cyst, and will ask you questions to determine more about any harmful diet or behavior that is contributing to the imbalance. The doctor will then create a specific prescription for your condition with Tibetan medicine, which is made out of pure herbs and minerals.

Please also look into the question and answer library for information on renal failure posted on January 5th, 2001.
