A: Diabetes (gChin-sNyi pronounced as gChin-Nyi) according to Traditional Tibetan medicine is a chronic degenerative disease including frequent urination. The cause of gchin-snyi according to Traditional Tibetan medicine is due to over-consumption of sweet and salty food, cool and heavy property food, and sitting and sleeping in wet damp places. These produce an excess of fat and Badkan (the normal level of Badkan in our body is three handfuls) in our body that later affects the urinary bladder due to accumulation of Za-Khu. Za Khu (Za means to consume and Khu means fluid) is nothing but body fluid mixed with the body nutrients. When excreted it is characteristically in the form of very hazy urine due to weak kidneys. Our bodys strength and complexion is also wasted due to mixing of body nutrients with the urine. he disease is classified into rLung (loong) type, mKhrispa (tripa) and Badkan type which are further classified into ten of rLung type, 6 of mKhrispa and 4 of Badkan type.
The pre initial stage symptoms are dampening of bed clothes specially around genital area, feeling of sleepiness, sweating a lot with very strong odor, hair and nails growing faster as compared to a healthy person. Having a sweet taste in the mouth, dry throat, burning sensation in the sole of the feet and in the center of the palm, cloudy urine and collection of flies on urine spot.
The general symptoms in the case of Badkan type are indigestion due to lack of Medrod (digestive fire), flatulence, heaviness, paleness of the body and the skin, lack of mental alertness and weakening of memory power, lethargy, loss of appetite, excessive need of sleep, excess of mucous, nausea and vomiting. mKhrispa type of gChin-sNyi person has pain in the genitals and urinary bladder, headaches, yellowish skin, feces and urine, lack of appetite, insomnia, dry mouth and throat, increase in body temperature, diarrhea, and prone to catching cold or flu. The following symptoms are rLung type of diabetes; palpitation, insomnia, short breath, body trembling and pain, flatulence, excess of mucous, loss of body weight, laziness, general uneasiness and unhappiness, darkening of skin color and tendency to prefer warmer areas.
Diet and behavior according to research done by Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institutes research department plays a vital role in treating Diabetes with their herbal formulas. Avoid sugar in any form including ice cream, chocolates and candy; consume less starchy foods like potatoes, refined cereal products like white flour or wheat flour without bran, milk and milk products, butter fried food, fruits with high sugar like banana, lychee, mango and grapes. Avoid egg yolk, ham, sausages, canned food, beef burgers, ready made soup and salted frozen fish.
Take more green vegetables rich in fiber like bitter melon, lettuce, string beans, okra, cabbage, carrot and soya beans, Take orange, water-melon, apple, guava, fish, chicken, lamb and use mustard oil sunflower oil and saffron flower oil. Exercise regularly for about 30-40 minutes, wear comfortable shoes and always try to do exercise with a companion and exercise only as much as tolerable.
