A: The qualities present in a Badkan person, even when they are healthy, are white complexion, low body heat; bones and joints are not visible; they are less hungry and thirsty, have longevity, are wealthy, sleepy, good hearted and very compassionate. These dominant people also crave for pungent, sour, astringent, rough and coarse type of food. The secondary cause in causing imbalances in Badkan energy are intake of too much sweet food, like chocolate, bitter food, intake of heavy, burnt and oily food specially animal fat, cold and raw food which are difficult to digest, sleeping during the day and right after taking food. Sitting on wet damp places, exposure of the body in cold weather, drinking icy cold water and over-eating specially eating again before the previous meal was digested. Apply a little higher pillow to help you sleep better and will reduce your chest infection because of less strain and better circulation. When the digestive fire diminishes our consumed food gets converted into fat rather than energy. Even you eat the healthiest food, you still may experience lack of energy as the food was not digested well enough to give energy to your system. Avoid or try to lessen all the above mentioned diet and behavior patterns as well as doing exercise. You have to be very patient in losing weight as it may be hard to lose weight, as compared to other people, without correcting your digestion by bringing back your digestive fire. There may be some Tibetan herbal formula to help lose weight but for that you should consult a traditional Tibetan doctor. - Dr. Namgyal
