Q: I am 33 years old, male. For 3 years I suffer from severe depression attacks, continuing for 3-6 months. What advice can you give me?

-  Christo, Sofia, Bulgaria.

A: Depression according to the traditional Tibetan Medical system is directly or indirectly connected with mind, which is the basic foundation of the system. According to the Tibetan medical system there are 7 different types of depression: rLung, mKhrispa, Badkan, stress, poison & spirit, or any combination of rLung, mKhrispa and Badkan. The general cause of depression is being discouraged, loss of your loved and dear ones, unhappiness, anxiety, consuming a non-nutritious diet, wrong behavior and unseen forces like spirits. These different causes create imbalance in the three constitutional energies, rLung, mKhrispa and Badkan- which disturbs our body and mind by putting pressure on ones mind.

The remedies done by professionals are getting oil massage, herbal bath, moxabustion, vomitting and Tibetan herbal pills. Consuming nutritious food like green vegetables, lambs, bone soup and cows milk is also very beneficial. Taming and controlling your mind is the primary factor and this can be helped by doing meditation and consultation with your spiritual master to guide your path. Avoid meeting irritating people, be with friends and places you enjoy and like to be. Accept your past problem as your Karma and look forward to a better future. Consider your problem as small by looking at greater disaster in this universe.
