Q: I have suffered for 11 years with severe anxiety/panic attacks. What can I do to help this terrible problem? Is there a Tibetan or Ayruvedic medicine for these types of
disorders ?                          -
Rusty, Tennessee

A:
Tibetan medicine diagnoses anxiety and panic attacks as imbalance in the rLung energy, one of the three humors. This rLung energy is directly related to the mind that can make our body sick since our mind and body are so much related. The cause of the rLung imbalance is due to lots of stress and emotional problems in the past or present. The best remedy for this problem is meditation and if possible cleansing your emotion through spiritual practices.

To treat any problem according to Tibetan medicine we follow these steps, diet and behavior, medicine and the last being therapeutic methods.

Diet recommendations: Intake of sweet, sour, salty, oily and heavy food are recommended. A year old butter, molasses, bone soup, ginger, onion, milk, wine made out of molasses are also highly recommended.

Behavior patterns are: staying away from bothersome company, which is very important, and try to spend more time with the people you love and enjoy being with. Try to concentrate on one thing rather than thinking of a thousand and this could be helped by doing meditation. Don't try to do too much strenuous work rather try to take things easy.

There are few Tibetan herbal formulas and they are Agar 35, Sog-rZin 11, Agar 8, Dongtse Agar 8 and Bi-mala. Therapies like moxabustion, massage and breathing exercises are very helpful. Warm up some nutmeg oil and apply it on the center of your palm, feet, first and seventh vertebrae and the heart chakra - this is also very beneficial.
