Q: I have a son diagnosed with High Functioning Autism, it is a Pervasive Developmental Disorder. The neurons that communicate to the different parts of the brain do not work. It is viewed as a neurological problem affecting language, coordination, auditory processing, etc. It is very hard to manage. Western medicine does not have a cure for this, they will only treat the anxiety that it creates. What do you recommend? And how can I understand this better in your terms?                                             - Barb, Minnesota

A:
There is no simple answer. Treatment depends on each individual case. The Tibetan Medicine physician will always focus first on the three principles of diagnosis, whatever the medical problem. These are: visual observation, feeling of the pulses, and questioning to find out the source and cause of each health disorder, according to the Tibetan medical texts. After this initial examination the doctor will make decision and express what is the cause of disease and whether it can be treated according to Tibetan Medical Science.

Let me roughly explain to you the underlying principles of our Tibetan Medicine Text. Tibetan Medicine specifies three principle energies (rLung, mKrespa and Badken). They are related to specific human organs and the nervous system. When the energies are in balance you have a properly functioning human body system. But when there are Disturbances, there will be negative actions. Particularly, rLung energy plays a very important role in the human body which is divided into five major categories. Some of the major rLung functions are articulation, performing actions, endowing the sense organs with clarity, sustaining the body, and speech. However, rLung is also very powerfully related to the neurological system. As I mentioned above, when the delicate balance is disturbed, it could lead to a defective nervous system and result in opposite actions as manifested by the symptoms associated with Autism.

Please do not give up. Try natural Tibetan medicine. This traditional system has been practiced for over 2000 years and there are still experienced doctors maintaining the practice around the world.
